Forever chasing perfection

Written 12 May 2012 by Jess

Is it really that bad to just embrace the person that you are, right at this very second?

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard the words 'I wish I was', followed by any adjective of choice. I’ve yet to meet anyone who has never wanted at some stage to be cooler/smarter/richer/thinner/prettier/sportier/more outgoing/or just like that person over there. I’m definitely not exempt from thinking this way.

Perhaps it is just a part of human nature to compare ourselves to one another and to judge. I do understand that this constant evaluation of ourselves is what leads to our progress or growth. I also understand the dangers of this evaluation.

There’s a point at which we end up worrying too much about the person we want to be, instead of focusing on where we are present. It’s like being set on self destruct, you can never become that ‘fantasy version of you’ if you spend all your time stressing about getting to that point. Chances are you haven’t pictured the ‘fantasy version of you’ as being stressed or worried.

Don't forget to take some time out once in a while to acknowledge the things that make you special right now. I’m not too sure where the rest of the stringsof.me crowd sits on this, but I genuinely believe that part of becoming that better person is to be self-loving. Stop doubting the present you, and instead go out and grab life.
